Oh no, we have a last minute change in speaker. Unfortunately Allison Titcomb will not be able to join us this month to discuss benchmarks and volunteer outcomes. Overtime Law Changes Loom

Overtime Law Changes Loom The Department of Labor (DOL) proposed overtime law changes loom in the coming weeks. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires that nonexempt (hourly) employees receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per workweek at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay. The FLSA includes exemptions from these minimum wage and overtime requirements for employees who meet certain salary and duties test. The Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed changes that would increase the minimum salary requirement for the administrative, professional, and executive exemptions from $455 per week to $970 per week in 2016. The highly compensated employee exemption would also increase. The DOL is also proposing automatic annual increases. Final regulations are expected to be issued in late spring or early summer. The sum represents more than a $1 increase compared to the figure in 2013. The American Red Cross of Southern Arizona is calling for volunteers to assist us in installing free smoke alarms in the Flowing Wells, Homer Davis Neighborhood on Saturday, April 16th, 2016. We are reaching out to you to see if you are interested in organizing a team of volunteers to come out and help this community. There will be fun incentives for the team with the most volunteers! This neighborhood has been identified by our national preparedness division as at high risk for home fire related injuries and fatalities. Nationally, seven times a day, someone dies in a home fire. Every 40 minutes, an injury from a fire is reported. Nearly 1,000 times every day, fire departments are called to home fires. Best Skills in Nonprofit Management Certificate Again Strategic Partner Nonprofit Certificate Nonprofit Management Institute is offering courses in Tucson starting April 1st. The courses are part of the "Best Skills in Nonprofit Management Certificate" again being offered and include courses focused on volunteer management, social media, and governance. Courses will be held roughly once a month April through October at Habitat for Humanity on Friday mornings.
